Megan and Andrew’s winter wedding at the Henry Ford Museum was timeless, classic, and romantic. Essentially, it was what wedding dreams are made of!
When they first began dating, many of Megan and Andrew’s first dates were at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Between the museum, Greenfield Village, and the beautiful grounds, it was the perfect place for the two of them to get to know each other while learning about the rich history of Detroit. After Andrew proposed, the two of them agreed that there would be no better place to spend their wedding day.
The morning began with Megan and the girls getting ready at Megan’s uncle’s house in Wixom. Because Megan is a cosmetology student, the hair and makeup teams were not only incredibly talented, but they were also her friends! After the bridesmaids put on their dresses, they helped Megan into her gorgeous Justin Alexander dress with buttons all the way down the train. As if her vintage-inspired look and red lips weren’t sophisticated enough, Megan added a lace jacket with a button back and cathedral length veil to complete her ensemble.
Meanwhile, the men got ready at their homes and arrived at The Henry Ford Museum in their tuxes, ready to be photographed. Nothing says timeless like a man in a black tux. Black tuxes are my favorite for two reasons: first, they really uplevel black and white photographs and second, they never go out of style! When deciding what my husband Paul would wear on our wedding day, he really had his heart set on a black tux while I was leaning towards navy. Looking back almost six years later, I’m so glad he chose black. It’s timeless and has aged so well in all of our photos!
After the groomsmen’s photos were complete, it was time for the bride and groom’s first look. Andrew and Megan had no doubts about taking this next step in their relationship together as a couple. However, they definitely had some nerves about seeing each other for the first time on wedding day!
While Paul helped get Andrew into position in the middle of the hallway with his back turned away from us, I led Megan to the entrance of the hallway, fluffed her dress and veil, and told her to enjoy every moment! After sharing a hug, kiss, and a few tears, both the bride and groom said they were so happy they decided to see each other before the ceremony.
After the first look, we roamed the hallways of the Henry Ford and captured photos of Megan and Andrew alone together on their wedding day. For most of my couples, these are the photos they care the most about, so we allocate at least thirty minutes for them on wedding day! I loved the way the chandelier and blue staircase framed the two of them. After their couple’s photos were complete, we photographed the bridal party and family portraits. Next, it was time to get these two married!
As lovers of all things timeless, classic, and sentimental, it made perfect sense for Megan and Andrew to tie the knot in the Martha Mary Chapel on the Henry Ford’s campus at Greenfield Village. After a Christian ceremony with traditional vows, these two were officially husband and wife! They celebrated by ringing the bell and having Andrew carry Megan down the hill to their reception at Eagle Tavern.
Due to the earlier winter sunset, the golden hour light was streaming into the Tavern during cocktail hour and made for a cozy and cheerful ambiance in the historic building. After prayer, champaign toasts, and dinner the couple opened up the dance floor with a live band and tons of twirls and dips during the first dance! The band played classics and the dance floor was packed all night long with friends and family celebrating together. I’m so excited to come back to the Henry Ford for another wedding this fall – until then, I’ll be reliving this day through the photographs!
Megan and Andrew, thank you for being people who are as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside. It was an honor to photograph your wedding day and I could not be happier for the two of you as you begin your new life together!⠀
